August 12, 2026: Mike Gomoll -- Wisconsin Shaped Music History

Mike Gomoll, founder of Joey’s Song, shared some of Wisconsin’s musical heritage with Rotarians August 12. Claiming Wisconsin is more important than LA, Nashville, London or New York, Gomoll said we’d be listening to easy listening and bebop but for these three Wisconsinites:
Wizard of Waukesha (with 36 gold records) Les Paul, who made the electric guitar a lead instrument.
Harry Chamberlain from Beloit, who turned an entire orchestra into one instrument, the electric keyboard. The Chamberlain/Mellotron revolutionized the recording industry.
Godfather of Grunge Butch Vig, Viroqua, willing to recorded anyone. His studio blew up after recording Nirvana.
