January 14: Dr. Zachary Morris: Thernanostics and Particle Therapy

Speaker: Dr. Zachary Morris, MD/PHD who is Chair and Paul Harari Professor of Human Oncology at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (Carbone Cancer Center).
Radiation therapy – the advances – are unbelievable in the last 20 years – much like the difference in automobiles from the turn of the 20th Century to today. UW & UW Health have been leaders in advancing the practice and technologies of radiation medicine.
The first Proton Therapy facilities in the state will be launched at both the new East Park Medical Center in Madison and at the Medical College of WI (located in Milwaukee) in April of this year. This treatment is absolutely critical for children with cancer. Theranostics, or radio pharmaceuticals, are a way to administer radiation medicine through injecting a drug into a patient. Once injected into the body, the drug finds cancer cells to fight.
