During an excavation at Stokesay Castle in 2023, amazing remnants of medieval feasting were discovered beneath the floor of the Great Hall. 🔎
These finds are now being analysed at our Fort Cumberland laboratory, giving us a better idea of the people who worked and lived in one of England's finest fortified manor houses.
Stokesay Castle was once home to Lawrence of Ludlow, a wealthy wool merchant who advised King Edward I. His enormous success in the medieval wool trade paid for the building of Stokesay Castle, as well as significant influence in national politics.
The site is now looked after by @EnglishHeritage , and visitors can explore the Great Hall along with many other treasures like the medieval staircase, tiled floor, and a richly carved 17th-century chamber.
