Major Iron Age discovery! This incredible collection of over 800 objects, buried around 2,000 years ago, offers a rare glimpse into life around the Roman conquest.
Discovered by metal detectorist Peter Heads in 2021, it was carefully excavated in 2022 by a team of archaeologists from Durham University, with advice from the British Museum and grant funding from us.
The hoard includes remains of ancient wagons and chariots, intricate pony harnesses, ceremonial spears, ornate cauldrons, and even an iron mirror.
The Yorkshire Museum is launching a fundraising campaign to secure the hoard for the nation.
