Rooks is the last remaining "Card Master". His parents were betrayed and slain after forming a resistance against Galneon, a court magician in the kingdom of Lexford who usurped the throne by staging a coup.
Our story begins with Rooks being approached by Ariel, his childhood friend and son of the man who betrayed his parents, and asked to stop the ones bringing evil spirits into the world at Balnia Temple.
Welcome to another video walkthrough from RetroPlay. This time I'll be going through an old First Person Dungeon Crawler called Arcana.
This is one of only two games of this type that I enjoyed when I was younger, the other being Shining in the Darkness for the Sega Genesis. I couldn't really get into many of the others from this time.
I will be trying my best to make this walkthrough as complete as I can, aiming to get all the treasures before finishing the game.
When you start off, I don't recommend outfitting Teefa with anything more than a Dagger, you will see why by the end of the first dungeon.
One thing to take note of: Sylph, the Spirit of Wind, is a special party member summoned by Rooks. Each of the spirits are special in that they don't gain levels but their stats and skills are based on Rooks' Level and Stats. They also regenerate their Health and MP as you wander through dungeons, which is a good to keep in mind as you progress.
The first dungeon of the game isn't very difficult, and as far as memory serves, and I remember never really having a need to level grind in this game much if at all.
I take two quick trips back to town simply to upgrade Rooks' Equipment and heal up. Once you defeat the Iron Guardian on the second floor, the area that's behind the boss has no random encounters, so just continue on to the big doors and watch the events unfold.
