How long has the surface features look like they do today? By measuring the time a rock has been exposed at the surface of Mars we can answer that question. The Curiosity rover traversing the lower depths of Gale Crater on Mars has samples rocks and performed cosmogenic dating to provide the best estimate to date of the age of the surface of Mars.
