The Nariz del Diablo (Nose of the Devil) Train in Alausi, Ecuador takes its name from the steep grades it must climb on a monolithic rock outcropping that bars the way between the upper Andes and the coast. Known as the most difficult train in the world, it solved the problem of the steep ascent by designing a series of zig-zag tracks that cut down the face of the rock. The round trip between Alausi and Sibambe costs $20 and takes three hours.
