In this mini video tutorial from 2Dgameartguru.com I use symbols in Affinity Designer to quickly create a kaleidoscope effect.
The symbols are a great tool in Affinity Designer and I love to play around with them. Patterns and symmetry are awesome applications for symbols. I use a circle and its pie function to create even segments for the design and use them as clipping masks for the shapes that make up the pattern.
I also added the samples and the templates [6, 8, 12, 18, and 24 segments] to my gumroad page. Get them for free!

Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Inkscape with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.
