I played this song using the standard C6th tuning (treble to bass: E - C - A - G - E - C). "Adventures in Paradise" became a very popular song in Hawaii after Bing Crosby, Elvis, Marty Robbins, and countless other singers and actors visited Hawaii to make hundreds of movies. The island of Kauai is famous for countless movies, including "JURASSIC PARK," filmed there.
Ironically, most of the albums that take people's minds and hearts to the islands were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee; where all the musicians live. Marty Robbins and Jerry Byrd recorded their awesome album, Song of the Islands, in Nashville. The movies had to be filmed on scene in Hawaii of course, but most of the music was recorded outside of Hawaii.
You'ld be surprised to know that most steel guitar fans are from Canada, Europe, Japan, and around the world, and the least in Hawaii. Hawaii's official State instrument is the ukulele. How can that be? It's because the steel guitar is much more challenging to play than the ukulele. If you can strum, then you can play a ukulele; but you must learn to coordinate with picks and use string groups to play chords on a lap steel. Plus, in the past lap steels were very expensive; but not anymore. You can buy a very nice, workable lap steel with legs and case for just $99 online. Just type "Rogue" or "Artisan" or "lap steel."
I am playing this song on a Jerry Byrd aluminum frypan, 24 1/2" long scale. The stand is a blessing as the guitar gets quite heavy after a while. As seen in the video, I'm using a battery-powered VOX amp with a 5" speaker. The SONY boom box plays my rhythm tracks. This Hawaiian song is one of my favorites, because it is slow and dreamy.
