I recorded this song, my own variation of Lovely Hula Hands, using the A7th pedal steel tuning. I am not playing the original melody. There are umpteen chord possibilities with my setup and I just liked the way it sounded. I was just trying some new chords and they fit, so I worked up an arrangement around the song's melody. My pedal setup is listed under my song, "Sweet Leilani" using this same guitar and A7th tuning.
At the very beginning of the song, I do an interesting technique with my thumb picks and some palm harmonics. I have the 7th pedal pressed down, which gives me a 6th chord. I actually strum across two notes at a time with my thumb pick, while gently picking the notes an octave (12 frets) higher with my right hand and then lifting my hand right away to obtain palm harmonics. It takes a little bit of practice to strike 2 notes at once, but it's easy once you get the hang of it. I press the 5 and 6 pedals on my guitar after picking some of the strings, which gave it a nice sound. I explain the tuning on my steelc6th.com website.
