This is an old Gospel hymn that I grew up with. My mother used to play it on her upright piano all the time. I never imagined that one day I would be playing it on a pedal steel guitar. The backing track is on YouTube if someone wants it.
Also, I recently learned about a GREAT thing called "Genyoutube" (just search for it online), which is free and allows you to convert any YouTube video into various formats; such as, MP3, and download it. That's how I got this backing track. Good stuff!
My 1970's built Sho-Bud Pro II has a beautiful sound to it that I have always loved. I think it's the hard-rock maple (which makes it about 85 pounds in the case). Needless to say, I DON'T carry this heavy thing around! I am playing this song on the E9th tuning neck. My 6th string looks lower in the video, but it is only an illusion, it is the same height as the other strings.
I bought these comfortable flip-flop shoes just for playing my pedal steel guitar. Regular shoes irritate my left foot, as the top shoe collar rubs my foot while working the pedals. The colorful strap around my neck is for holding my ukulele. I wear the strap because it reminds me that I am special to God, as are you too my friend.
My right foot is operating a volume pedal, which is also used for expression. Even Jerry Byrd (1920-2005), my favorite non-pedal steel guitar artist, always chose to use a volume pedal instead of the volume knob on the guitar. I do the same when I play lap steel, since I am so used to the volume pedal. A lot of Jerry's awesome steel sounds requires a volume pedal to emulate.
