Advent Neon is finally out. Been covering this cool indie action platformer ever since SAGE 2021, as a demo/proof of concept and I honestly can't believe it's finally out. Props to the developer @CryoGX for sticking to it and making their first commercial indie game a reality.
Now about Advent Neon now that's finally fully released. If you're on the fence about buying the game I have these simple questions:
1. Do you like fast platformers like Sonic The Hedgehog?
2. Do you like punching things in videogames while styling your enemies like it's a Devil May Cry game?
3. Do you like DBZ?
4. Do you like old Newgrounds sprite flash animations?
If you answered "Yes" at least 2 times, then congratulations, Advent Neon is a game for you, because that's probably the best description I can make for this game.
The combat especially is something I enjoy a lot, it's more like a Super Smash Bros. in fast platformer form, you can cancel every move into each other provided your fingers are fast enough, with a Bayonetta-like witch time mechanic and fast and aggressive that makes fighting all the more frenetic.
Platforming feels also pretty tight, most closely resembling a 2D Sonic game in the veins of Sonic Rush. And if you'd think actually adding combat to a fast paced platformer would make the game design conflicting, somehow CryoGX managed to blend them seamlessly.
Coupled with a banging soundtrack and distinct artstyle that genuinely gives me old Newgrounds flash games (and I mean it as a compliment) and you have a genuinely amazing and engaging action platformer.
I only showcase a couple of levels I enjoy as well as a couple of boss fights played as best as I could, in hopes I could convince to give Advent Neon a fair shot.
