Operation WANTAIM (meaning 'all together') is the name for the ADF contribution to the Government of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and PNG Defence Force celebrations commemorating PNG's 50th anniversary of independence on 16 September 2025. PNG is one of Australia's most important defence partners and is home to Australia's largest bilateral Defence Cooperation Program. The ADF is proud to support PNG's independence celebrations under Operation WANTAIM, demonstrating our close relationship built on shared history, geography, and longstanding cooperation. Australia and PNG have, and always will, walk together "side by side and step by step".
