The 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment conducted the first live fire serial of the new platforms, M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle (ABV), Joint Assault Bridge (JAB) and M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge system (MICLIC).
The MICLIC system clears pathways through minefields by rocket launching an explosive-filled line charge that detonates to destroy buried mines.
The ABV is used to clear minefields and obstacles, creating safe paths for other vehicles and troops. Based on the M1 Abrams tank chassis, the ABV is equipped with a front-mounted mine plow, a dozer blade, and a linear demolition charge system that uses rockets to detonate explosives at a safe distance.
The JAB is an armoured vehicle based on the M1 Abrams platform, capable of deploying a folded hydraulic bridge in under three minutes, which can support the weight of heavy military vehicles.
From 5-17 September, Combat Engineer, Cavalry, Infantry and Artillery units of the 3rd Brigade are working side to side as armoured combined arms assets to complete the Operational Test and Evaluation if the new equipment conducted by the Land Combat Vehicles Program, at Townsville Field Training Area.
