Taking time to properly practice the closing poses in the Ashtanga Yoga method can really help settle the nervous system. Halasana, Plow Pose, is part of the shoulder stand sequence and can be very calming if practiced with good alignment and technique.
Avoid rounding the back and scrunching the shoulders. Instead, glide the shoulder blades towards each other and press the upper back portion of the shoulders into the ground to support the neck. Point the sitting bones up to the ceiling and engage the quadriceps. Interlace the fingers and reach the hands towards the ground.
There are many adaptive variations that can make Halasana accessible if these alignment pointers don’t work for you.
Join Tim and me on the mat in the Mysore room as we explore this asana and so much more together January and June 2026.
