Tucked between Silver Peak and Tinkham Peak, Abiel Peak is a short but steep scramble that rewards with sweeping views of the Snoqualmie Pass corridor. The peak rises to about 5,368 feet and is less visited than its neighbors, giving it a more rugged, off-the-beaten-path feel. We took the approach via Windy Pass, following the Pacific Crest Trail southbound through open forest and meadows, with gentle grades that make for easy walking. Along the way, there are lots of wild huckleberries to snack on, adding a sweet treat to the hike.
The final push to the summit is short but steep — a scramble on loose dirt, heather, and talus. Some sections require the use of hands, and footing can be tricky, but most of the route is Class 2, with a few Class 3 moves if you stay on the ridge.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, this route also lends itself to a multi-peak outing. Many hikers link Abiel with Silver Peak and even Tinkham Peak in a single push, creating a rugged alpine circuit with big views, plenty of scrambling, and the occasional snack from the huckleberry bushes along the way.
