Lake Tullpacocha is truly special, offering a blend of stunning landscapes, high-altitude beauty, and a sense of adventure. The lake is located in the Cordillera Blanca, a mountain range that is part of the larger Andes in northern Peru.

During the first part of this hike, you traverse a wide, flat valley several miles long, nestled between towering cliffs. From there, the valley splits, and the route becomes more challenging to follow. As you approach the lake, the view really opens up, with huge glacier-capped peaks spawning thundering waterfalls. Unlike other destinations in the area, Lake Tullpacocha receives very few visitors—we didn’t see another hiker all day during this 16.5-mile trek.

Hiking to Lake Tullpacocha is an unforgettable adventure for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking to connect with Peru’s stunning highland landscapes. The views, the solitude, and the sense of achievement once you reach the lake all combine to make it worthwhile.
