Enjar Lake, tucked dramatically at the base of Snowking Mountain, was the objective, but the access alone demands respect. A rugged 21-mile gravel road delivers potholes, brush encroaching tight enough to scrape paint along both flanks, and two washouts that pose a real obstacle for low-clearance vehicles, with minimal pullouts to yield to oncoming traffic. From the trailhead, the route passes Slide Lake — a scenic basin with solid camping and fishing potential, though the fish stayed hidden — before the tread deteriorates into a heavily overgrown, bushwhack-only approach requiring sharp route-finding to reach the lake. After camping lakeside at Enjar, we went back the same way the next day, pausing once more at Slide Lake to take in the views before the long drive out.
