In this episode of Adventures Into History, I’m joined once again by The Other Robert as we head into Troup County, Georgia, to explore the Traylor Family Cemetery—a burial ground dating back to 1839.
The oldest marked grave here belongs to John P. Bailey (1839), alongside members of the Rowland family and others. What makes this site even more fascinating is its unlikely location—hidden in the woods directly behind an abandoned Waffle House, beside the interstate.
Spanning burials from 1839 to 1993, this cemetery contains remarkable grave markers, from early plantation-era stones to more modern memorials. It’s a striking reminder of how history can survive in the unlikeliest of places—often overlooked, but never truly gone.
