In this episode of Adventures Into History, we’re on the backroads of rural Georgia visiting three incredible pieces of Southern history — from an abandoned country store to one of the oldest operating mills in the state.
Our first stop is a long-closed country store and gas station, once the heartbeat of its small community. Though the shelves now sit bare, the walls still whisper stories from decades past — from faded advertising signs to old product displays left behind.
Behind the nearby home, we step even further back in time to explore a three-seater outhouse, a rare survivor from an era when indoor plumbing was a luxury.
But our final stop is truly the highlight — a mill built in 1792, still standing strong after more than 230 years. Privately owned and lovingly restored, this remarkable building has been preserved as a cabin-like retreat while maintaining its authentic mill structure and equipment. Inside, we take a look at antique tools, artifacts, and the craftsmanship that’s kept this mill alive for over two centuries.
