When we speak about the school’s global impact, we could be talking about a lot of different topics such as our disease research in South America, our Gorilla Doctor program, our vaccine development in Africa, or more. But one of our greatest contributions is something that starts here in Davis through our residency specialty training and quickly moves across the globe in a very positive, impactful way.
Our school started the first veterinary residency program worldwide and today has the largest specialty training program. While many of our residents and interns come from California and the United States, others travel here from around the globe! As you will see in today’s video, many of our residents graduate and return to their country of origin to become the only board-certified veterinarians in their areas of specialty in their entire countries.
In this episode of A Minute with Mark, we speak with three of our graduating residents who have completed their training and are headed back to their home countries. They will have an outsized impact there, creating new training programs, treatment centers or other activities that will benefit many veterinary professionals and animals.
This year, 56 residents, fellows and interns completed their training. Together, they are helping strengthen the veterinary workforce locally, nationally and globally. These individuals will be instrumental in training the next generation of leaders and will improve animal, human, and environmental health around the world.
