Let's review each episode of the cult classic Viva Pinata TV series based on the hit game in (mostly)under 90 seconds!

In A Match Made in Court, Beverly drags Hudson to court for repeated attempts to avoid her. And because we need a plot, she's awarded an attaining order, meaning Hudson has to remain within five feet of Beverly at all times. So, if you couldn't tell, this is another truly unhinged segment. Hudson is legally required to live with his obsessed stalker. That is another fifty flavors of messed up! And, yet, like the last Beverly-centered plot, I can't help but enjoy this one. I'd say it's weird that the show has decided to reintroduce Beverly as a recurring character, but considering the sudden intensive focus on Hudson, I guess it makes sense. And maybe it's because, once again, they're focusing on actual jokes and not just trying to treat the situation as a joke in and of itself, but I did find a lot to laugh at. Like how even though Beverly finally has Hudson to herself, she can't break her stalker habits. Like forgetting she's supposed to be leading Hudson to her house and not following him. Or how she brings him to her anti stalking support group. Or an absolutely demented sequence where Hudson has a nightmare he's been permanently stitched to Beverly! Where, I dunno, I think his eye pop reaction freaked me out more. And Hudson does get the opportunity to turn the tables, where he has to rush to make the opening of his new play. But Beverly is terrified to be on stage, as, get this, when she was a child competing in a spelling bee, she was struck by a meteor! And in this show, who knows if she's exagerrating? But they perform their act to the best of their abilities, and things work out. In fact, they work out too well. It's another ending I don't want to give away, other than saying it goes from satisfying, to disappointing, to satisfying again all within the last minute! This is another example of the show being truly demented, and in this case, it works! And I'm convinced Beverly actually did murder and stuff these Horstachios.

Transcript: The Lepidopterists follows immediately after Tears of A Sea Cow, to the point I dont know why it wasnt aired sequentially. A desperate Monarch finally gets A Venture to arch, as his cocoon descends on Jonas Juniors island. But the supergenius is a little new to the whole heroes and villains game and needs guidance from the OSI on how this game is supposed to be played. Only to be told, hey, just vaporize the psycho. This episode has the tightest pacing weve seen in the show so far. Almost being told in real time as we see Monarch arching the OTHER Venture. Only to realize this Venture Brother is much more armed and competent and a lot less familiar with the theatricality of nemeses in this world. Meaning Monarch soon finds his lair and everyone in it dangerously close to destruction, while Jonas is warned that if he destroys them out of nowhere, hell become the archrival of every out of work villain they have. So most of the episode boils down to both sides trying to figure out how to get themselves out of this mess. Yeah, its another dialog-heavy episode, where things get surprisingly technical, so I apologize if I miss or misunderstand a plot point. Ultimately, Jonas isnt into the whole rivals thing, having no desire to play along and just wanting to squash Monarch like the bug he is. And when hes finally contacted by Brock and the OSI, who consider themselves in charge of the heroes as much as the Guild regulates the villains, they tell him that, because of the Monarchs infractions, he can go ahead and kill him, but, as per guild guidelines, he has to make a show of it or risk guild retaliation. Meanwhile, Monarch and Doctor Girlfriend learn from the guild manual that if they survive this fight, that somehow means Rusty will become Monarchs main archrival again. So for most of the runtime, Jonas is trying to come up with a showy enough way to take down Monarch once and for all, while Monarch sends his henchmen to implement the Dark S7 maneuver. Which is where most of the episodes comedy comes from, as Henchmen 21 and 24 are paired up with the never before seen Henchman One to accomplish the goal. Despite the former two having never even heard of it, or anything the much more competent One demonstrates on their mission. Which is also exactly what keeps them alive. Yeah, the episode gets delightfully meta, as 21 and 24 are fully aware the reason theyre still alive is BECAUSE theyre screw-ups! That anyone who has ever tried to be competent in the show, especially under Monarchs employ, has died a grisly death, even mentioning Speedy from the first season. So most of their screentime has them being as involved as little as possible with the mission, while continually remarking that Henchman One is going to die any second now, much to his annoyance. Where, what a shock, they complete their mission, and One is horribly murdered right after. Yeah, I dont think Im spoiling anything saying that. I also like the allusion to giant robot series, where the OTHER Team Venture lead by Jonas form a combining fighter robot to horribly damage Monarchs floating lair. With Sallys mentally challenged cousin Ned being tucked away in a ineffective limb to keep him safe, and their personalities somewhat changing to reflect the reference, their dialog becoming more bubbly and stilted like the actors are trying to copy the bad dubbing of early anime. And how unhelpful the Guild representatives are to Jonas trying to contact the OSI got a laugh. Though not so much the OSI representatives, who try to joke while also being very straightforward, and its a bit thats too played out for my taste. But probably the biggest laugh is its jabs at political correctness, where Jonas lectures how hurtful Monarch is by calling them retards and thick skinned, especially with Ned as part of the crew, where Monarch responds hes the villain, hes not going to use soft language around them! And Jonas is also corrected when he tries to find out who represents the good guys, instead told to refer to them as protagonists. Its cheap, but its funny. And its another episode Im not going to give away the ending of, especially since Im not entirely sure what happens. Yeah, this one was a little confusing, but I enjoyed it enough, and will probably watch it a couple more times, if just to figure out whats going on. Oh, and the pirate captain is revealed to be a junkie. ...Yeah, just something theyve decided to share with us.$
