I always cringe a little when I watch those DIY home shows and see people start demolition like it doesn’t take any thought—just swinging sledgehammers and breaking things willy-nilly. The truth is, most things come apart the same way they went together. In my opinion, it saves time, money, and energy (and is a whole lot safer) to think through the process before tearing into it.
In this case, years ago my old Hitachi miter saw had rails that extended far back behind the saw, which forced me to either move the miter station further into the shop space or cut a hole in the side of the building. I chose the latter and built a small box to give the saw the clearance it needed.
Now that I’ve upgraded to the Festool Kapex, I no longer need that box. So, I decided to take this opportunity to remove it and make a few improvements to that section of the barn—added a bit of insulation, replaced some siding with new T1-11, and made a few other small repairs.
