The immaculate Blue Peter hauls the Chairman's train on a press day as the whole train was unveiled at London Euston. The Chairman's Train will be available for bespoke tours and also available for private hire. Included in the train is a class 121 bubble car named flora which followed the main train after as it featured at the end. In regards to the action, we capture 60532 heading towards Blackburn at Jack Green and then at Hoghton Summit. Unfortunately due to an array of poor planning mistakes I barely made it to my spot and only managed to capture half the shot, which had to be handheld. This was dissapointing but lessons will be learned. A brief shot of the bubble car is shown at the end. Hopefully the video showcases what the Chairman's Train looks like and some of the places it may go.

The Chairman's Train info
On May 18, The Chairman’s Train – owned by rail-mad multi-millionaire Jeremy Hosking – was unveiled at Euston. As well as bespoke tours, it will be the first train in the UK available for private hire in its entirety – that is, nine cars, all for yourself and a friend or 15. The cost of a ticket for this over-the-top travel indulgence? Final rates are yet to be released, but as a guide, the company’s spokesperson says: “exclusive hire of The Chairman’s Train would start from £45,000 for the first day, with subsequent days from £25,000 per day thereafter.”
It’s a lot of money, obviously, but given that L’Observatoire on Belmond’s Venice-Simplon Orient Express train starts at £80,000 per night – and it’s only a single carriage – you could describe The Chairman’s Train as competitive, within its minuscule market sector.
Now decked out in classic 1950s British Rail “blood and custard” livery, the coaches were previously used on Caledonian Sleeper services. Gutted and refitted by engineering firm Independent Rail, they feature all-new luxury interiors by designer Sara Oliver. Guest suites are finished with handcrafted marquetry – by the family firm that did the woodwork on Titanic – fine linens and walk-in showers.
But everyone on the train has access to panoramic observation cars that offer sweeping views of the landscapes it passes through. A dedicated “bubble car” called Flora will be used to take guests on excursions using remote branch lines and into locations unreachable by standard services.
From this summer, the train – hauled by “a carefully selected combination of vintage steam, electric and diesel locomotives” – will offer tours for up to 16 passengers.
The inaugural season begins with the West Highland Experience from July 10-14, followed by a second tour from Aug 14-18. Departing from Euston, the train will travel north on the West Coast Main Line, with an overnight stop at Armathwaite in the Eden Valley. On the second day, the train continues to Fort William, where “Flora” will transport passengers directly from the train to their hotel for a two-night stay. The return journey travels south via the West Coast Main Line from Rannoch to Kilmarnock, where guests will stay overnight before returning to London Euston on the final day via Carlisle.
Anyone who has been on a posh train knows how much time there is for food and drink, notwithstanding the siestas. On The Chairman’s Train, seasonal menus “curated” (of course) by in-house chef Nicholas Allen will appear like magic at breakfast, lunch and dinner, with drinks and canapés for the quiet periods. During hotel stays, breakfast and dinner will be taken at the hotel, with lunch included at one of Scotland’s top-flight restaurants.
Prices for the five-day West Highland journey start from £9,000 per room and include all transfers, food, excursions and accommodation on and off the train.
From 2027, The Chairman’s Train offering will expand to include bespoke itineraries and exclusive private charters across the United Kingdom. Guests who can afford the hefty whole-train fee will be able to commission journeys tailored around specific interests, from castles, cathedrals and gardens to golf, coastal landscapes and heritage destinations.
