Even when I do normal training, I still don't do "normal" training :)

When I work trap bar deadlifts, on my top end set (525 lbs here), I like to do a 10-12 second lockout hold just to really feel the resistance and get the benefits of the heavy loading on the body for more than just the duration of the actual rep.

I find this helps my body acclimate to the heavy loads (kind of like the lockout partials I showed for bench press).

This doesn't necessarily make you stronger on full-range deadlifts but I do it because I (and this may sound crazy) really like the feeling of being compressed by heavy weight.

After that top-end single, I'll back off on the weight to 315 lbs (taking 4-5 minutes rest) then do a high-rep, fast-tempo touch & go set to work strength-endurance and conditioning.
