Once you learn how to put a burr on a scraper… scraping is pretty much gravy. Beautiful curls… and a surface that looks incredible when you’re done.
But there’s still one problem. Scraper fatigue.
Because long term scraping, especially with a cambered blade…it starts wearing on your fingers.
So instead of fighting that, let’s fix it.
We’ll make something that holds the blade for us… feels good in the hands… and doesn’t take long to build.
I came up with what I call a yoke scraper. And no… not that kind of yolk. This yoke was built to hold the blade… not your breakfast.

Let me show you how easy this is to make.
First…we need a cutout for the blade. I found about an 18 degree angle works really well for scraping, so we’ll make a simple angled sled. Just a few 2x6 scraps cut and hot glued to plywood will do it.
Once the center’s hogged out, we need a way to hold the blade, so we’ll drop in some threaded inserts.
For the handles, we’ll make a quick 3D shape on the bandsaw. We’ll cut one side, tape it back together, then cut the other direction. A little sanding…maybe a little scraping…and you’re done.
Now you’ve got a scraper that works with you…not against you.
