Wagner Leitmotifs | 34 Gotterdammerung : Der Ring Des Nibelungen @wagnerleitmotifs7654 | Uploaded August 2013 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
This leitmotif is first heard in the forth scene of Das Rheingold.

This motif represents Gotterdammerung (Twilight of the Gods) sometimes called downfall of the gods. It is an inversion of Erda and the Nature motifs. At the beginning of Das Rheingold the rising arpeggio represented the beginning of the universe, now a descending arpeggio represents its end. This motif is often (though not always) heard directly after Erda's motif, as in this recording.
