Wagner Leitmotifs | 12c Valhalla (final segment) : Der Ring Des Nibelungen @wagnerleitmotifs7654 | Uploaded September 2013 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
This leitmotif is first heard in scene 2 of Das Rheingold.
This motif is the third and final segment of the Valhalla motif. It forms a triumphant (perfect) cadence which often attaches itself to the end of other motifs to give them a magisterial seal of approval, for example Wotan's idea of creating Nothung at the end of Das Rheingold, or the passage accompanying 'Rest, rest, thou god' as Brunnhilde prepares to destroy all heaven in her immolation scene.
All three segments occur individually throughout the cycle.
