Jimmy Doherty, Kate Quilton and Matt Tebbutt travel the globe in their quest to uncover more unusual, intriguing and surprising secrets behind the food we eat. Jimmy takes to the skies above Israel, as he joins the battle to protect the bell pepper crop from its fiercest predator, the harmless sounding Mediterranean Fruit Fly. But this is biological warfare with a difference – and Jimmy's amazed to learn it isn't insecticide that he's helping spread across the desert!
Kate's investigating Manuka, the premium-priced honey marketed for its anti-bacterial properties, but soon finds herself entering a world of confusion. So with every jar appearing to use a different labelling system, how can consumers tell just how much of the active ingredient of manuka is actually in their jar of Manuka?
Matt's looking into the thorny question of just how much of a leek we should be eating? His journey takes him to the UK's largest leek producer, where he's shocked to discover the amount of perfectly good leek that goes to waste – and amazed by an astonishing mobile factory on wheels, capable of processing 60,000 leeks a day.
