For decades, Matthew Byrne has been a familiar face inside Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, offering comfort and a sense of normalcy to children and families during some of their hardest moments. That dedication was recognized with a surprise celebration honoring his 30 years of service.
“I didn't expect it at all. I'm just so pleased that they allow me to come,” Byrne said.
Byrne’s volunteer work in Upstate’s pediatric unit began in 1996, more than a decade before the children’s hospital opened its doors. Hospital leaders said his long-term commitment stands out.
