This lesson combined lots of actions for the student, he learns to combine the tocco (Sforzo) to clear the line of attack, fake by a finta diretta and use a controcavazione to avoid the circle parry of the master to finish with a straight thrust. He then have to parry the threatening by the legazione with a ceding parry and hit with a stoccata di graduazione.
We are not doing olympic fencing but historical fencing or HEMA, which means we follow the book "Scuola della spada" from Paolo de Scalzi from 1853. He taught the sword or epee as it were a sharp weapon aka a dueling sword and you better don't get hit. That makes fencing the martial art and real fighting as it should be seen as, just as it were taught in European weapons training for centuries!
