The sforzo or tocco is a technique to clear the line while the parata di picchio is a beat parry to hit the opponents blade to the side in the parry. Both are more advanced fencing techniques. In HEMA the beat parry is used for the smallsword, dueling sword, foil, sabre, spadroon and other fencing weapons of the 18th or 19th cent.

We are not doing Olympic fencing but historical fencing or HEMA, which means we follow the book "Scuola della spada" from Paolo de Scalzi from 1853. He taught the sword or epee as it were a sharp weapon aka a dueling sword and you better don't get hit. That makes fencing the martial art and real fighting as it should be seen as, just as it were taught in European weapons training for centuries!

If you want to join us, Mispeldorn is located in Aachen Germany
We are one of the finest clubs for smallsword and sabre if you are looking for a different kind of weapon in HEMA. Maybe you are interested to join our study group for cane, staff and Savate or just come for a visit!
