General Motors has been recently spotted testing several prototypes of the highly anticipated Zora at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. During the test runs, four different Zora models were captured by photographers, all covered in heavy camouflage but displaying distinct styling elements reminiscent of the Corvette ZR1. Notably, the prototypes were equipped with rear wings similar to the ZR1 ZTK package, low-profile tires, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Despite these similarities, the yellow hybrid sticker on the rear window indicates that the Zora will feature hybrid technology, combining a front-mounted electric motor with the powerful V8 engine.
Much like the Corvette E-Ray, the Zora is expected to house its batteries in the central tunnel. These LG battery cells provide 1.9 kilowatt hours of power, with 1.1 kilowatt hours usable by the front electric motor. The motor itself adds significant acceleration benefits, potentially cutting the zero to sixty time by half a second. The E-Ray, for example, achieves this in an impressive 2.5 seconds compared to the standard Stingray's 3.0 seconds.
The electric motor produces up to 160 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, supplementing the LT7 twin-turbo V8 engine, which is estimated to generate 1,064 horsepower. Combining these power sources, the Zora could exceed 1,200 horsepower, a notable leap from the E-Ray's combined 655 horsepower.
Slated for release in late 2025 as a 2026 model, the Zora is expected to weigh more than the ZR1 due to its hybrid components, with a projected dry weight of over 4,000 pounds. While the prototypes may undergo further changes, it is unlikely that the final production model will differ dramatically in terms of overall design from the current C8 Corvette lineup.
