In June, the renowned Californian event Luftgekühlt made its European debut in Wrocław, Poland, transforming the historic Dworzec Świebodzki railway station into a celebration of air-cooled Porsches. This gathering drew over 200 classic Porsche models and around 3,500 enthusiasts, marking the largest Porsche-focused event ever held in Poland. The event attracted Porsche lovers from across Europe, with some cars coming from as far away as Scandinavia and the United Kingdom.
Mateusz Klawiter, one of the key organizers, was thrilled with the turnout, noting that the event had sold out. “This is exactly what we have been dreaming of for years," he shared. It was a sentiment echoed by the crowd, who enjoyed the mix of rare cars, engaging conversations, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Patrick Long, a former Porsche works driver and one of the original founders of Luftgekühlt, traveled from California to join the event. He emphasized the event's aim to offer visitors a fresh perspective by bringing together a community of enthusiasts in a new location. Jeff Zwart, Luftgekühlt's Creative Director, highlighted the joy of exploring a new culture, with music, local cuisine, and iconic cars creating a unique atmosphere.
The event’s centerpiece was a makeshift runway set up inside the historic train station, showcasing unique models like two restored 356 Speedsters owned by Polish Porsche fans. The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart also contributed to the event's allure, sending legendary cars like the 908/03 Spyder, which won the 1,000 kilometer race at Nürburgring in 1970, as well as a 911 SC Safari, a 964-generation 911 Carrera RS, and the high-speed icon of its era, the Porsche 959.
Long's favorite highlights included a Porsche 917 and a 935 in classic Martini livery. These cars, along with many others, provided a rich display of automotive history. Among the exhibits, visitors could find the oldest Porsche registered in Poland, a 356 ‘Pre-A’, and a 1960s 911 T that its owner preserved in a time-worn condition externally while perfecting its mechanical elements beneath the surface.
Families, friends, and individuals of all ages wandered through the venue, enjoying the diverse array of 911 models from various air-cooled generations, many of which had been personalized by their owners. This spirit of shared passion made the event more than just a car show—it became a social hub where stories were exchanged, and memories were made.
The success of this event in Poland has set the stage for Luftgekühlt’s next European venture in Copenhagen, Denmark, scheduled for September 6 and 7. This expansion reflects the growing appeal of the event and its ability to connect Porsche enthusiasts from around the world in new and exciting ways.
