I finally did it… I opened a vintage mini bottle of Yellow Chartreuse from the 1970s. These things are rare, full bottles often go for thousands and if I’m being honest, this was my first time trying an old Chartreuse.
The difference between the old and new Chartreuse is HUGE. The vintage pour is darker, the aroma is richer, and the flavor? Bright herbs, tons of verbena, and this warm, brandy-like depth that modern Chartreuse just doesn’t have. The current version feels more neutral by comparison.
So… was it worth cracking open a 50-year-old bottle for a single sip? For me, yes—absolutely.
If you’re curious about vintage spirits, check out my friend Sebastien from @vintagecocktailsclub He’s a great resource if you ever want to explore this world. This little mini came from my own hunt, but he knows his stuff.
What do you think—would you spend big on a taste of history?
