A 175 year old money company just put a digital dollar within reach of 200 countries.
On May 4, 2026, Western Union launched USDPT, its own US dollar stablecoin, built on Solana and issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, a federally regulated US crypto bank. A stablecoin is a digital dollar designed to hold its value. USDPT is redeemable one to one for US dollars and fully backed by reserves.
Now add the scale. Western Union reaches more than 200 countries and territories, more than 130 currencies, billions of bank accounts, millions of wallets and cards, and hundreds of thousands of retail locations. This is the last mile cash network of the planet plugging one in.
The stack matters too. Western Union selected Fireblocks for wallet and settlement infrastructure, a network connecting more than 2,400 institutional counterparties across more than 100 countries. Solana brings settlement speed. Anchorage brings regulated issuance. Western Union brings compliance and distribution.
Then on June 4, Bybit became the first major crypto exchange to integrate USDPT, starting in selected Latin American markets, cutting purchase to fiat off ramp timing from days to minutes. Selected markets only for now, and no public volume numbers yet, but the direction is clear.
Why it matters: this is not crypto replacing cash. This is crypto settlement connecting to the exact places where people already cash out, pay family, and move dollars across borders. Western Union brings the last mile. Bybit brings liquidity. That is a stablecoin supply chain forming in public.
