Bill Gates says crypto is 100 percent greater fool theory. One of the smartest people alive, and he's wrong about this one.

His argument is that a real asset produces something. A farm makes food. A company makes products. Crypto makes nothing, so the only reason to buy it is that somebody will pay more than you did.
Take his own test seriously and it breaks. A cow has utility because it produces food. Blockchain has utility because it's a better vehicle for moving and settling money than what we use now. Faster. More secure. No middleman required for it to work.
And you don't have to take my word for it, because the institutions are voting with their infrastructure. The stock market itself is moving onto blockchain. Banks are building on it. Government agencies are integrating it right now.
If this were only greater fool theory, the most regulated plumbing in finance would not be rebuilding itself on top of it.
He did say he's not long or short any of it, and that's the honest part. He isn't talking his book. He just doesn't use the thing he's describing.
