Many people think bees don't have resources those first few days of January and February. They think they need to feed bees until real spring gets here (which to them is when flowers are blooming and gardening begins). But bees do have plenty of resources in late winter for zone 6b. For one, both red maple and elderberry are already alive. Pollen is readily available from the first warm day. If you have several days of warmth, dandelions start blooming and henbit or purple dead nettle will start blooming. There are so many natural food resources, I don't even worry about feeding my bees unless the hives are so low that without my intervention they really won't make it. In this video you can clearly see bees bringing in an off white pollen on February 25, 2025 right after the 2nd week to ten days long Arctic cold front ended.
