1 A Stitch in Time

About those things we don’t remember,
About those things we forgot,
About the way things really were,
And the way things were really not.

It is a textile held together,
By nature’s secret whim,
With golden lace linked together,
With patchwork at the rim.

It cost nothing if you buy it,
Because it always goes away,
It comes in measured segments,
A year; a month; a day.

Like the soaring of an osprey,
Or the dashing desert fox,
It settles into spaces,
Reserved by you for thought.

And transcending mighty mountains,
Then sweeping high and low,
It forces you to travel,
Where only the lucky go.

So welcome to the patchwork,
With loose stitches for the mend.
And holding memory gently
Until the story finally ends.

And finally when you get there,
You hear a certain chime,
And see that textile all hemmed up,
By the final stitch in time.
