In Long Island’s Central Pine Barrens, the Southern Pine Beetle has killed large stretches of pine which left behind dry fuel that increases wildfire risk across a populated landscape. Team Rubicon Greyshirt volunteers are on the ground supporting the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) by felling and thinning trees and maintaining and widening fire breaks near the Rocky Point Pine Barrens State Forest.
