Today we return to the world of Yakuza as we experience Kiryu's third chapter in the long lasting series. I actually played this back when it came out on the PlayStation 3 and remembered it very fondly. For a long time I even claimed that this was my favorite entry in the series. But after having replayed it so many years later I have to admit that there were a lot of sections that I did not remember and that resulted in me liking this chapter now a lot less. The atmosphere and vibes in the Okinawa chapters are amazing, but you are mostly babysitting during those times. And one or two events where you have to babysit are not that big of an issue, but you have to do it constantly throughout the game.
Then there is also the story which is simply not that exciting. Most of the story revolves around a land deed for the orphanage of Kiryu on Okinawa and a secret black market arms dealer. The fact that an important character from previous Yakuza games now suddenly has a twin brother also comes out of nowhere and in general this game just felt like a step down from the previous two entries. There are definitely moments where it shines, but overall I hope that Yakuza 4 will improve upon this as I have never played Yakuza 4 prior to this.
