It is time for a nostalgic trip as we archive the RPG with a classic style in the form of Starbites. This is a JRPG that takes inspiration from the role playing games on the PlayStation 2. We play as Lukida and her friends as they hunt for scraps and treasures in the desert that is littered with junk. They bring their spoils back to Delight City which is a beautiful, vibrant Cyberpunk city.
The sections in the city feel like an adventure game where you talk to NPC's, perform side quests and explore the awesome environment. Whereas if you go to the desert it feels more like a dungeon crawler, since the camera is high up in the air and you will explore various facilities where you traverse narrow hallways and chambers like a classic crawler game.
The game has satisfying combat with great upgrading possibilities and plenty of options to customize the robots that you use for combat. The boss battles are a real challenge and will make you have to use buffs and debuffs in order to come out on top.
I think the story, combat, and exploration are fun, but there are some sections where it can drag or can be confusing when traversing the indoor facilities. Puzzles often involve simply looking for a specific key and during cutscenes characters will walk right through each other. But the voice acting is excellent and the characters are very likeable, so this is the perfect little RPG snack for those feeling a bit nostalgic.
