He posted this on Bluesky not long ago I've been told of at least two Xbox studios that are at risk of being closed by the end of the year. One of which would come as a shock to everyone.
Update post claiming it's not Obsidian or Rare: It wasn't Obsidian or Rare, for those who've asked. I'm working on trying to get more details on what employees are feeling at the moment. But the picture could become clearer in the coming weeks, depending on what decisions get finalized.
But everything is on the table at Xbox Fine: Two of the studios I've been told, including getting messages from employees at the locations who are "scared", are Compulsion and Arkane.
Despite public messaging, many within the studios have expressed real worry and have overheard conversations about the future of the studios. Some employees who spoke to me are higher up within the studios, and have said there is "real concern" that they're next based on the messaging from the company. Xbox reportedly plans to shut down Compulsion Games, developer of South of Midnight
[via Kotaku] Craig Duncan (Head of Xbox Game Studios) and Louise O’Connor (Chief of staff) to step down.
His studios will report to Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty until a replacement is found.
