WTCG has just become WTBS, after Ted paid for a new transmitter for the school radio station "WTBS" (I believe Notre Dame?) and acquired his long-wanted call letters. This is late 1979, and you're seeing all the PI's (per inquiry) commercials that let Ted not only expand WTBS, but help pay for a lot of things not possible without these PI's (ginsu knife etc). In short order, the WTBS Update would gain a well-known sense of humor from Bill Tush and the crew. Within 3 years, I would start doing a lot of the on-air look of the station overnights, and along with all of my TBS friends back then, start turning this local station into a good-looking national cable channel (the first of many standard cable channels). It's incredible what a small group of people did for little money, but with almost total freedom for everyone to use and develop their talents with Ted Turner's encouragement. What a place to be!
