Late 1979, WTCG (Turner Communications Group) changed to WTBS (Turner Broadcasting System). Ted Turner always wanted it to be WTBS, he said because TBS sounded like CBS, but he had to wait until he could but a new transmitter for the Notre Dame station with the TBS calls.

The announcement of the change by "Brother Gold" (I think a guy named Jessie in the sales dept) is hilarious. The stuff they did back then was totally off the wall.
