From early August 1984, here are some bits and pieces taken from a recording of "Reflections in a Golden Eye," featured as a Star Movie on WPIX (channel 11 out of New York City, known as "11 Alive"). Some parts are very 1980's, others were still holding on to that seventies feel, and some are both (such as the Mount Airy Lodge "summer of fun" spot with newer bits added).
As this was a weekday airing, there are many business and trade school commercials, including an Apex Tech ad with familiar spokesman Neil Elliott. Here's a quick look at what you'll see:
--just a bit of the Star Movie open, the movie's open, and a scene as the film goes to the first break, with bump;
--DeVry Technical Institute, 1981;
--Albert Merrill School (with Jimmy Randolph, but not the older version of the ad);
--WPIX promo for August's movies and specials, then another bump;
--Taylor Business Institute, 1983;
--Airco Computer Learning Center (student Anthony DeLosa);
--Control Data Institute;
--Robert Fiance Business Institute;
--Apex Technical School (but Elliott doesn't say his usual line!);
--TeePee Ironworks;
--Taggart's, the Driving School People (Andrew MacMillan);
--WPIX promo, "Andrea Doria: the Final Chapter," airing Thursday, August 16th;
--DeVry, 1984, Space Shuttle and President Philip Clement;
--Mount Airy Lodge in the Poconos;
--Woodbridge Memorial Gardens and Rose Hills Memorial Park (you gotta love a commercial with a creepy cemetery shot);
--U.S. Auto School (with the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in the background);
--WPIX promo, for the very strange-looking "Holocaust 2000";
--Taylor Business Institute, with a Long Island-y gal pondering her career path;
--Waldbaum's had a sale on M&M's through the 4th;
--The Institute for Hypnotherapy's Petrie Method cured what ailed ya, 1984;
--Allan Socher and Marc Zucker of Room Plus Furniture stood by--and on--their work (see if anyone else is willin to stand onna draw);
--Silverblatt and Hamilton for all your divorce needs;
--TCI (Technical Career Institutes);
--Dole, proud of runner Joan Benoit:
--another Airco spot, this one with Zina M. Britton, making that money;
