We're celebrating World Turtle Day and here at The Deep, we are home to turtles large and small!

You will have no doubt encountered our Loggerhead sea turtles in Endless Ocean, but have you seen the Yellow-spotted Amazon river turtles in the shop?

The turtles are so called because males have bright tellow patches on their heads which fade with age. Each one looks slightly different which helps us to tell them apart. They are known as 'side neck turtles', pulling their heads around and to the side when threatened or resting instead of it going straight back into their shell.

You can see them enjoying a treat of fruit kebabs in this video with keeper Helena.
