Abstract: Every production application should be well-tested and have automated checks and tests in place making sure the growing features do not break something.
Unit tests are great to test R code and logic in your shiny apps. End-to-end tests are important too, I think of them as the first line of defense against bugs. There are strengths to having both of these in your shiny app and we'll see what they are and when to use them.
There are a few hurdles for writing cypress end-to-end tests for a shiny app that we will overcome. A major one is the fact that cypress tests require some knowledge of JS.

In this talk, I would like to answer these questions:
1. What are the advantages of end-to-end tests over unit tests?
2. Why cypress and not shinytest2?
3. What JS prerequisite is needed to use cypress?
4. How to set up npm and cypress?
5. How to add tests using cypress?
6. How to set up CI for your cypress tests using GitHub actions?
