Abstract: Presage Group Inc. is a Canadian scientific consulting firm specializing in human behavior in the airline industry. Recently, our analytics team was asked to create a novel assessment tool designed to optimize learning opportunities and performance outcomes for trainee pilots. This tool is going to be a key component of pilot training that could improve flight safety for millions of air travelers every year. The tool was required to be online, fast, and able to take user data input over several days and act as a personal dashboard where users can see their own data. Moreover, the tool needed to have separate interfaces for the training instructors and students. To ensure that the app would be used by pilots, accessibility was required on both the desktop and iPad. We chose to use R Shiny to develop this tool as it enabled fast database connection and operations using {httr}, {firebase} and Github Actions. Furthermore, {bslib} helped us create beautiful and accessible user interfaces for instructors and students.
