Welcome to the seventh video in our Fusion Getting Started Series! In this lesson, we’ll focus on working with imported geometry and explore powerful tools that make it easy to reuse and edit models from other CAD systems.

We’ll begin by uploading IGES and STEP files into the Fusion data panel, showing how to insert existing components into your design. You’ll learn how to manage imported parts that lack design history and use Direct Editing to modify geometry quickly—removing features, extending faces, and healing surfaces without sketches or dimensions.

Next, we’ll group imported components using Rigid Groups, ensuring they move together as a single unit. We’ll also apply Constrain Components to align parts precisely, and use As-Built Joints to define realistic motion between assemblies, such as shafts rotating inside bearings.

You’ll see how Edit In Place allows you to make changes directly to linked designs, giving you flexibility to adapt parts without breaking references. Along the way, we’ll demonstrate practical examples like deleting unwanted ribs, adding holes, and constraining assemblies to the origin for stability.

By the end of this video, you’ll understand how Fusion enables seamless collaboration across different CAD formats, letting you import, edit, and assemble geometry with ease. These skills are essential for building complex designs efficiently and will prepare you for the next lesson, where we’ll use the Sweep command to create the bail wire.
